Ferret Wise Adoptables

Ferret Wise, on occasion, has ferrets awaiting adoption. We also have a referral service for ferrets which need to be re-homed. It is kinder by far to place a ferret from a home environment into another home environment without the shock of a shelter stay. Those ferrets at the shelter (or in shelter hospice) have arrived through abuse - neglect investigations and many need extensive rehabilitation prior to adoptive placement. That is the "unique" focus at Ferret Wise - to provide care, love and hopefully allow animal investigators to pursue legal ramifications for harm to ferrets! With the help of many we make a better life for the ferrets we protect.

All ferrets at the shelter have been examined by a veterinarian, and given rabies and distemper inoculations. Ferret Wise also now tests all incoming ferrets for ADV (Aleutians Disease Virus) prior to intake. No ferrets are admitted to the facility who test positive for ADV. Those families wishing to adopt - who have ferrets for companion check - must show proof of negative ADV testing (through United Vaccines) within 20 days prior to shelter visit. All adoptions are processed in the best interest of the ferret!

Those persons interested in starting adoption procedures with Ferret Wise Shelter are encouraged to request an adoption pre-screening kit. Send a SASE (55 cents) business size envelope to: Ferret Wise Shelter - Adoptions, PO Box 561, Marlborough, NH 03455-0561. Pre-screening submission and an introductory visit must precede adoptions. For further information please call the shelter at (603) 876-4975.

Please see our Referrals Page for ferrets outside the shelter who are also looking for homes!

The directors at Ferret Wise would like to publicly thank the Monadnock Region Humane Society for accepting the domestic ferret into their facility. The domestic ferret is the third most popular companion animal in the United States. More than 140,000 ferrets are sold through the pet shop industry each year. Sadly, many do not have a place to go when their impulsive owners tire of them. The kind folks at the MRHS have recently agreed to take in those ferrets whose owners have tired of them, in order that they may have hopes of finding another loving home.

This will allow the volunteers, directors and staff of Ferret Wise to focus on promoting the educational programs, which we hope will eliminate unwanted ferrets within the region and the state. Ferret Wise will also remain available to the MRHS and the state animal cruelty investigators to assist in rehabilitating any abuse and neglect victim ferrets, or those who need some behavioral modification.

Ferrets are therefore sometimes available for adoption at the Monadnock Region Humane Society in N. Swanzey, NH. Please contact them during open hours M, T, Th, Fr, 11 - 5 and Sat. 10-4, for information on adoptable ferrets at (603) 352-9011 (press 0 for operator during open hours to speak with someone about adoption).

Lost or Stray:

Ferrets that have either been lost or have strayed from their home are sometimes available for adoption. Call for more information at (603) 876-4975.
