Tips for Traveling
UP TO DATE vaccination records / certificates should accompany you
(it is a good idea to keep these current & in vehicle glovebox at all times)
CARRY EXTRA SUPPLIES- each cage or carrier shouodl be equipped with a self contauibed litter pan, food and water bottle. Place small catch cups under the water bottles to hold drips due to road travel. Always carry extra litter, food & water for refreshingh or restocking during the excursion.
Be AWARE of the CLIMATE
Ferrets SHOULD NOT be kept in hot vehicles any temperature over 80 degrees coudl prompt heatstroke. A heated vehicle reaches temps over 100 degrees quickly, this would be fatal to your pet ferrets.
Ferrets should not be taken out of A/C vehicles into the heat of the day. A cage cover helps to break the transition from A/C to warm temperatures.
(Ferrets do not tolerate high temperatures and will easily dehydrate. Additionally a ferret could develop a bronchial condition or even pneumonia if it is taken in and out of an air-conditioned enclosure to a hot location time and time and back again.)
CAUTION IN WINTER: In very cold climates ensure that there are warm blankets to keep drafts off cages or carriers while travelling- also drape a cage cover over the carrier or cage when taking ferrets from house to vehicle. Drafts can spur a bronchial condition or pneumona.
PLAN AHEAD! Plan for the elements ( weather & climate) , time to travel to and fro and acceptable accommodation's should be considered at all times. Call ahead to make sure your pets will be welcome!
SAFETY FIRST : MOST states ferrets or any pets not kept in a safe enclosure (carrier or crate for traveling) should a vehicular accident occur, and pets become injured, owners can be prosecuted for abuse and/ or negligence.
Always remember to take all precautions for safe traveling.
