Bear Truths in the tradition of Ewok Talks

First, let me introduce myself. I am Bear, A HANDSOME AND DISTINGUISED ferret fellow! I try my best to keep things going on even ground here at Ferret Wise, but sometimes the two-legs just get in the way! I am going to write (with help of course) and let you know the ferrets point of view on matters of ferret necessities -- play and such. If you would like me to address a certain topic mail your request to:

"Special Friends!"

Who would ever think in such a place I could talk about "special" friends? Well, right here in the humble shelter abode, my work is that of making "special friends". I admit, sometimes it is very hard, like when all these whipper - snapper youngsters come in all jumping and running about, but... heck , I guess some ferret has gotta do it... might as well be me.

Now I am a big sort of guy. On most days I weigh in around 4 1/2 pounds. Now I am not the biggest guy, but I sure am a solid one. I suppose to a new little gal I appear a bit overwhelming... like the newest shelter gal--she screams whenever she sees me coming! Yikes keep it down woman! But you know there are always some of these kids that really need a handsome kind gent like me for a friend. Take the kid they called Rocky Rocketman. Poor lad, I NEVER have seen a sadder case in my years. This kid was outright depressed. He was so sad, fat and teary for days after he arrived. He wouldn't even come out of the cage.. just slept, ate and laid sad as sad could be. On the third day of walking up to the open cage door-- he wouldn't budge - "all right", I said "I am coming in". Well, he didn't scream, he just laid there-- so I laid right down beside him. I put my big head right on ol' Rocks shoulder until he finally paid attention. Later I got him to come on out and look around.

The shelter folks were amazed-- seems this poor youngster was almost a yearold and had not been allowed out of the cage for months-- because he dirtied up a carpet in a fancy house. He was obese and sad. It took a while for him to get into the exercise routine and lose weight carefully. I know the folks were worried about his heart breaking, but heck, he is doing just fine now!

Rocky Rocketman did not know how to play -- it took me and the folks here 3 whole months too get this kid to run more than 3 steps before laying flat! Now, we two are really tight guys. Of course Rocky had to stay around as they said he would get sad and sick all over again, so we are now the teaching team and we go out and have kids hold and pet us etc. I must say it is pretty neat having a few different jobs here, but being a good friend and buddy is really the very best. You know old Rocky still looks for this big white guy at nap time, seems he needs a big pillow to sleep well. I guess you can say we are special ( shelter) friends.
